چکیده

Influenced by the need for composites with stronger magneto-electric coupling, we present a novel numerical method called “Computational Piezo-Grains” (CPGs) for modeling different types of piezoelectric/piezomagnetic composites in the microscale. The advantage of this method is that the matrix and the inclusion of a grain can be modeled using only one element in a finite element sense. The geometric shapes of these computational grains mimic the shapes of grains in the microscale and each grain may contain an embedded micro-void or micro-inclusion. The material of the matrix or the inclusion in any grain could be elastic with no couplings, piezoelectric, or piezomagnetic; thus allowing for modeling different configurations of piezo-composites. Lekhnitskii formulation is extended to model any of these composites and is used in the development of these computational grains to express the fields in the matrix and the inclusion of each computational grain. © 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS. Method of Green’s Function for Characterization of SH Waves in Porous-Piezo Composite Structure with a Point Source

An approach of Green’s function is adopted to solve the inhomogeneous linear differential equations representing wave equations in piezo-composite materials. In particular, transference of horizontally polarised shear (SH) waves is considered in bedded structure comprising of porous-piezo electric layer lying over a heterogeneous half-space. Propagation of SH-waves is considered to be influence...

Buckling and Postbuckling of Concentrically Stiffened Piezo-Composite Plates on Elastic Foundations

This research presents the modeling and analysis for the buckling and postbuckling behavior of sandwich plates under thermal and mechanical loads. The lay-up configurations of plates are laminated composite with concentric stiffener and surface mounted piezoelectric actuators. The plates are in contact with a three-parameter elastic foundation including softening and/or hardening nonlinearity. ...

The Effect of Substrate Clamping on Laminated Magnetoelectric Composite

A theory model was established to calculate the magnetoelectric voltage coefficient of piezoelectric/piezomagnetic laminated composites on silicon or magnesium oxide substrates. The magnetoelectric voltage coefficient is calculated as function of interface coupling factor k, volume ratio of piezoelectrics to piezomagnetic, and volume ratio of substrates to composite. It was found that the magne...

Theory Analysis on Magnetoelectric Voltage Coefficients of the Terfoneol-D/PZT Composite Transducer

The magnetoelectric response of magnetostrictive/piezoelectric laminate composites has been investigated. Based on the piezoelectric and piezomagnetic constitutive equations, and motion equation for the composite plate, the magnetoelectric equivalent circuit has been derived, and the magnetoelectric coefficients predicted. Prototype devices of, as an application example, Terfenol-D/PZT composit...

Predicting Magnetoelectric Coupling in Layered and Graded Composites

Magnetoelectric (ME) interaction in magnetostrictive-piezoelectric multiferroic structures consists in inducing the electric field across the structure in an applied magnetic field and is a product property of magnetostriction and piezoelectricity in components. ME voltage coefficient that is the ratio of induced electric field to applied magnetic field is the key parameter of ME coupling stren...
